Halloween is coming and so is the surfeit of pumpkin, candy, and slutty costumes that go with. I’ll do a rundown of the local costume store’s geeky costumes later this week ( in case you’re wondering, the children’s costumes are, of course, infinitely more true to various canon than the adult costumes).
As usual, there’s GCOM’s weekly game night. The DC Redditors group is also making its way over to the Drunk Spelling Bee tonight, so go join them and then have some Dangerously Delicious Pie for me. 😀
What: Annual crawl the streets of Silver Spring as zombies and scare the living bejeezus out of everyone event! If there’s one thing you do this weekend, THIS IS IT!
Where: Silver Spring, starting line at Georgia and Sligo Ave
Metro: Red line, Silver Spring
How Much: Free
Pro-tip: Get there early in order to make zombie friends and ensure your place in the zombie horde. Also, Jackie’s, Quarry House, and Piratz Tavern are awesome places to congregate afterwards and share gruesome, living dead tales.
What: A free presentation of the French scifi/fantasy films, Paris Qui Dort and Le Voyage Imaginaire. Paris Qui Dort being accompanied by a live pianist. Not a robot pianist, unfortunately, but we’ll get there. If nothing else, these films are a fascinating view into 1920’s Paris. Paired with Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris,” could be quite the francophilic night.
Where: National Gallery of Art, East Building Concourse, Auditorium,
4th Constitution Avenue Northwest
Washington, DC 20565
Metro: Green/Yellow lines, Archives/Navy Memorial
How Much: Free
Pro-tip: Here. Read the film descriptions yourself, and then decide if these French flights of fancy are worth your cultured time. Or that bit of time you set aside in your life to become cultured cuz eating fancy cheese doesn’t count.
