I know, I know! I’ve been so amiss! But I had a really good reason, which was the weather. That’s right. I’m blaming the weather. That godawful mugginess that gave me the first case of Allergies ATTACK! and the flu all at once. I’ve been downing over-the-counters like crazy. Now, I’m back, just in time to usher you all back into THE GEEKEND!
What: Free viewing of” Welcome to the Space Show”, an anime movie, presented as part of the Embassy of Japan’s cultural what-have-you program
Where: JICC auditorium, 1150 18th St NW, Washington DC, 20036
Metro: Farragut North, Red Line
How Much: Free, but recommend registering
Pro Tip: Fair warning, a couple of us geek bloggers will be there, talking shop and being all geeky about the intarwebs and such. I’m hoping to meet up with the folks of Otaku Journalist, DC Geeks, and District Geek. So come geek out with your fellow freaks who are out!
What: A 3-day gaming marathon session starting today. Mostly so that people can actually get through an entire game of Diplomacy, but rumor has it there’ll be people there willing to play some less time-consuming games such as Settlers, Axis and Allies, Agricola, Game of Thrones, etc.
Where: Crowne Plaza Hotel, 8777 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD
Metro: Silver Spring, Red Line
When: Friday, 4pm-Midnight
Sunday, 8:30am – 4pm
How Much: $55, you can register on their site
Pro Tip: See if you can bring a friend, because they’ve got a special BRING A FRIEND special that let’s the two of you get in for $35 each. If you need to find someone to go with, try the DC Redditors meetup that’s pairing people up to take advantage of the special. Also, if there’s a game you’ve been dying to play but all your friends are losers who won’t play with you, bring it since you’ll have a pretty good chance of finding someone else who’s been dying to play it too. Your bromance or OTBGL (one true board gaming love) might be right around the corner.
Don’t forget about the usual Friday events, like GCOM’s Game Night at the Tastee Diner in Silver Spring and tonight will be a Magic: The Gathering Innistrad Release Party at Labyrinth Games and Puzzles, 6pm-10pm. I recommend calling ahead first to see if there’s room.
